New York, NY (November 25, 2008)—InterMedia Outdoors, Inc. (IMO) has announced that it will not be moving forward with The Great Outdoors Festival in 2009.
"We are a big supporter of the Festivals," said InterMedia Outdoors CEO Jeff Paro. "However, in light of the recent economic downturn and the challenges faced by many of our sponsors, the financial structure will not allow us to continue to produce the Festival."
Over one and a half million attendees have participated in the unique, hands-on family Festivals that took place in Memphis, TN, Richmond, VA and Oshkosh, WI. Originally conceived as a celebration of appreciation for the outdoors, The Great Outdoors Festivals afforded an opportunity to bridge the gap between readers and editors of the many InterMedia Outdoors' magazines, industry manufacturers and the public. The Festivals also created an occasion to explore the many avenues available for involvement in environmental conservation.
The Festivals began as the Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival in 1995 in Memphis and expanded to Oshkosh in 1999. Richmond was added as a third venue in 2003. Each Festival provided an average annual economic impact of fourteen million dollars making these cities a local, state and nation-wide destination for attendees and manufacturers alike.
InterMedia Outdoors, Inc.'s Director, Events Cindy Caryl has piloted the Festivals since Oshkosh's inception during which time they expanded in size and scope. "We are extremely proud of our association with the great cities of Memphis, Richmond/Petersburg and Oshkosh and the solid partnerships and friendships we formed not only with them but with the thousands of dedicated volunteers and the extraordinary venues at which the Festivals were held," Caryl said.
Moving forward, IMO will continue to pursue the development of outdoor-focused events and further expand upon its current efforts through branding its core titles in the outdoor and conservation arenas.
